This, of course, is coming from a company that makes a living creating ANTI-VIRUS software!!! Pleeeaase!!

Now, I am not saying that OSX in impenetrable. It is not. EVERY OS can be made vulnerable with the right commitment to malice. But, c'mon, guys... they're really reaching now. What they do not tell you is that nothing, NOTHING can be installed into OSX without the user's knowledge. Virus writers know this, and -- given the path of less obstruction -- write viruses for Windows... because it is easy to implant them.

Again, I am not saying that it is untrue... but, consider the source.

It's only business, and it's called fear tactics. Symantec wants to sell more products, and with OS X, especially Tiger, they are loosing business, so they come up with a "Study" and plays on their customers fears. It's widespread in marketing, advertising and sales. The fact is when was the last time you heard of a widespread Mac computer virus? Not to say it can not happen, but until microsoft switch to the mac platform...probably won't.

Anyway I just went thru both drives and found Norton and Virex still lurking around as useless junk. So I got motivated and deleated the whole mess. They do not work with tiger anyway.

Hey, I have an anti-virus program (Virex), and I do run it once a month or so. But, so far, in more than two years of Mac ownership, I've had not ONE infected file.

I had both Norton and Virex. Virex detected a number of viruses but none designed for the Mac. It took a loooong time to run but it finally refused to launch after I upgrade to tiger. There was an upgrade though. I believe Norton stopped making a virus application. Which OS are you running?

Tiger doesn't need an anti virus software, I think it's built in. Also for ultimate mac protection, run your mac internet apps from an airport. The airport will act as a firewall, you can set all kind of protection levels and it has it's on IP.
