People in the Middle East, and even in Iran, love American culture, Hollywood, American music, American products live Levis Jeans, etc. What they don't love is our military being in their country. That is why they hate us. It has nothing to do with our culture or even our religion.

But by making you think that they hate us because of "who we are", and not because of "what we do", they remove any responsibility from the equation. But we do have control over this. We can be nice and then most of the world will like us, or we can be bastards and most of the world will hate us. Most recently our government has chosen the later.

Just curious where you get that, from your VAST travels through the Middle East? While I would never say "hey they are all like that" I'd listen to someone who has spent time there before I'd listen to a correspondents interpretation.

Actually one of my friends, Matt, that I had to watch buried in front of his 4 and 6 year old sons... told me when he was home between 1st tour and 2nd tour that probably 9 out of 10 "terrorist holds" they took out had LOTS of porn, INCLUDING some strange shit like transvestite porn and beastiality porn. He said those are some sick fucks. But that doesn't mean ALL of them, only the terrorist extremists. MOST of the population were "great, normal people" with loving families that wanted similar things out of life as you and I.

I have 2 friends who lived most of their lives there. One is Syrian, and one is Palestinean. One came here in her teens, the other in her 20s. I also had a good friend in college who was Iraqi and lived most of his life under Saddam Hussein's regime, and came to the US for college. Aside from the fact that any book you read by anyone who IS Middle Eastern (not an American who travelled there) will say the same thing. And as 2 people have now pointed out, even these mean terrorists like porn. So I guess it is not their great religious beliefs that drive their cause, huh? So then what must it be? If religion was so important to them, then they obviously would not have porn.

Sorry to hear about your friend. But yes, they are not much different than we are. They have their wackos and their normal people just like every other society.
