Saved by xDrive tonight

Well today driving home we had a very brief but strong ice and snow storm that left the roads a mess. Coming over a black ice coated overpass after exiting the highway at my exit, I encountered a man crawling out of his Jeep Grand Cherokee which was on its roof. Right as I drove onto the bridge I felt a major loss of traction, but felt the car regain it very quickly thereafter. I offered to call 911 but he refused and prefered to call our non-emergency number instead . Anyways, made it home slowly and safely and later heard that within a half mile of my exit and about a half hour later, there was a 17 car pileup I was in the 135i earlier before everything iced over and it did great (very sticky tires) but I need fog lights!!

Stay safe Chicagolandians.

Wow, glad you made it home safely. It was very kind of you to stop and offer assistance to the Jeep driver too!

Even though we don't get a lot of snow down in these parts we do see quite a bit of ice. I've really been impressed with the XDrive system.

gotta agree, had a bit of a lurid slide about a week back, but the technology pulled me out of it.

I used xDrive last night! :yay:
Low of 24, tonight baby, lets get some precip and cancel some classes!

Slightly OT, there was an issue where I had to call BMW Assist, and it took them like 5 minutes to find where I was because my display said "Data Error"... What gives? This happens every time.

First storm is always bad for traffic. Some people think that just becuase they have a SUV they do not have to worry about slowing down in snow.

Welcome to the south. I call it natural selection.
We had snow in the forecast for next Tuesday but they have already cancelled in in favor of a continuation of our drought.

This happens the first time in Washington DC area as well. And the second. And the third........yeah you get the idea. I put on the winter tires for the 3 and X3 this past weekend, just in time for this terrible cold spell.

I remember one of the speakers at the Explore Carolina event (pre-orientation event for admitted prospective students) mentioned this:

"You gotta love the Raleigh Durham area. You're 2 hours from the mountains, and 2 hours from the sea. And when it snows, you can watch the Southerners try to drive in the snow.........."

Glad that you and the X are fine. I'm more scared of people hitting me. Some people are ridiculous in the snow.
