Before GM spun Delco, they sold car parts to other manufacturers. While companies might be competitors, if the other company has a good product, why not use it? Have you noticed that the auto manufacturers are getting away from producing everything internally? Way back when, raw materials came in on one side of the plant and cars emerged from the other. That is no longer done; there are hundreds of suppliers.

What is the big deal about Canon buying glass from Nikon anyway? Nikon has a good product and why should Canon invest money to make their own? It would probably cost more, could be better or could be worse than what they have now (product wise), then you have the R&D to improve it and more importantly, it could cost them more to make.

IBM competes with Intel, but yet IBM sells servers that contain Intel CPU’s. They also sell Windows machines, buy yet they have AIX. Sun did the same thing not long ago. Sun also sells machines that can run Windows. Before Intel got into the Big Iron processors, what do you think they did? Not do anything that required the use of large servers.

Microsoft has some certified partners that sell products that don’t run Windows at all, never have and never will.

You can find a Toshiba HD in a non-Toshiba computer.

So JCL has seen it referenced as well and I remember seeing Canon being listed as customer of Nikon.
