Leave for Germany 12-18-08 Woot!

Ok.... got my li..d.erho...my German shorts with straps!!
My plug adapter. Not sure about the rental car yet (will get what I can afford...ouch!) Ipod classic with about 30 movies loaded.

And most everything else I'll need for 3 weeks in Germany. We have very close friends that are native Germans that live just east of Frankfurt.

Plan to drink a lot of beer , hit the Black Forest, travel to Trier (French border) and drink more beer, go into Switzerland, Austria and back into Germany to drink more beer and catch all the castles. Will also, be in a lot of the smaller towns going to their Christmas festivals to drink beer.

Depending on the vehicle we get....... get an the AUTOBAHN and haul ass!!!!!! woohooo!!!

Oh, BMW in Munich closes for xmas the day we arrive and opens back up the day we leave. That sucks!!!

We may try to visit one or two of the existing concentration camps in Germany. The execution camps that are preserved are all in Poland. Too far.

Family is stoked as it's been 18 years since we've been there.

Any suggestions on additional sights????

For starters, the trains are a great way to get around and although we rented a car, I don't recommend at all in any major city. There are also trains that run into smaller towns in the countryside as well (unlike the US), so only use a rental vehicle if necessary. If the rental cost doesnt kill your wallet, the petrol will. Sources tell me petrol is around €1,25/litre. For non-metric folks, thats about $6,25/US gallon. I guess its down from the $9/US gallon over the summer........
