I think a chick car isn't necessarily the model, but how the car is.
Color, equipment and mods make a difference.
I wouldn't be caught dead driving an Artic on Beige E90, but about 30 girls from Atlanta have those at my school, but I've never herd one person refer to my Black on Terra ZSP E90 as a chick car. YMMV.

If a woman looks at a car and says "Aww, isn't that cute!" then it's a chick car. It has nothing to do with stats or performance. It's all about how it appeals to the female gender. So, how many of you have heard a woman say that about a Mini?

Personally, I like Minis a lot. I thought about getting one when the Clubman came out. I mentioned it to my mom and she said "ya right!" and totally thought I was joking. I mentioned it to a few friends at work and they laughed it off too and even poked fun. I'm not saying I think it's a girl's car - HOWEVER that IS the perception that almost everyone I know has. You have to realize that most people in the consumer world are not car people. They don't appreciate the technical/engineering aspect of Minis or plenty of other cars out there, nor will they ever care. The concept of what constitutes a girl car is open for interpretation - in my experience though, nearly everyone thinks of the Mini as a girl car.

You Forgot Mazda Miata... Not that I'd necessarily argue with its status as a chick car, but...

I will say the Miata probably supercedes the Mini as the 'most fun you will ever have driving a car that also leaves a minimal carbon footprint'. With its classic roadster style and proper front engine, rear drive platform (would BMW* ever make a front driver, come on..) I'd argue it is more fun to drive, and everybit the definition of a roadgoing go cart...

* I realize Mini is manufactured under the broad ownership of BMW, but I doubt that BMW would ever label a front drive car as the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'..
