I'm not an AT&T apologist, but I've gotta say: In eight years with AT&T, I have not had any major issues with reception. In the past few years, I've been all over the Carolinas, VA/MD/DC, NY/NJ, CA (LA, San Diego, and San Francisco), Florida (Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Jax), Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, the Caribbean (you name it -- just about every island), Mexico, Europe (I know, not AT&T, but it's GSM), and I have yet to experience a major problem. I honestly do not understand all the complaining about AT&T.

I did have a problem with my iPhone 3G dropping calls after it first came out, but Apple fixed it with a software update.

Maybe I've been incredibly lucky... or maybe some people like to complain too much.

I think you have been lucky, Juan. I bought a V600 with AT&T when I got my X5 so that I could use it with the BT module. I had lots of problems with AT&T, especially dropped calls and no service. Mostly at home but also when I traveled (Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle, SF, etc.). That was five years ago. A friend who lives around the corner recently bought a BB and had nothing but problems with them so he switched to VZW and is happy.

I got rid of my home phone since VZW service has been so reliable (also have SkypeIn/SkypeOut for occasional use).

The CR link I gave earlier is based on a survey of over 50k people in Sept. 08. For each of the twenty-three markets surveyed:

- AT&T is consistently rated lower in satisfaction than VZW.

- VZW has no ratings below average whereas AT&T has a considerable number.

- AT&T has no ratings of above average or excellent whereas VZW has a considerable number.
