I just got out of a student government on the cap on communications majors. There are currently 7 faculty, and there is a cap of 30 students per class year, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 to APPLY Demand is about 100-120 students per class, and the class sizes are increasing. It's the 3rd most popular major, with the second smallest department.

"Due to the current economic climate, we cannot afford to hire any more faculty which is the only solution"
"What can we do to help"
"Come back. re-enroll next fall."

Because we all really want to get a degree in something we don't want to do. I was sitting next to some professor who was grumbling about what a crock of crap it is.

They won't hire new Comm faculty with attrition of less popular, overstaffed departments.
The professors can't bear to teach a second section of the same class (3x50 minutes per week, same syllabus)



... just another nail in the coffin of this place. And I was even starting to get back on an "up" again. AND I screwed up my knee so I can't run for a week.
