Big jump from megapixels to gigapixels... the digital zooming capabilities are just incredible!

But as for the privacy issue, hopefully they keep this shit to "public" places and dont peek into anyones backyards... though I can see the security and law enforcement uses in public places/gatherings. Let's keep "big brother" as more of a distant cousin.

Guys that photo was taken from a simple Canon P&S cam. The guy stitched all the pics together in photoshop or another software.

Ah, not exactly a stitch from a P&S...
I bookmarked the sites below, last summer...still pretty high tech, imo.

I give it 10 years before every cell phone camera can do that.

About 5 years ago I got my first camera phone which was 0.1 megapixels. Next month T-Mobile will be releasing this one:

Can't most cameras do that today? While technology is involved, it still appears to be post-processing, not photography. Just take enough shots.

JCL, from their site, it appears a much larger number of exposures are made of any scene
than with a standard stitch scene, eg 20-40. They are perfectly segmented cell shots, from
top to bottom and left to right, of the "scene"; and, done at full zoom, which is interesting.
They are then pieced/stitched together by the unit.

The interesting thing to me is acutance and detail in each "cell" after being stitched together.
Not only is the stitching perfect, but the resolution visible in each cell is extraordinary to my eye.
If one views a Gigapan photo, and zooms in on any area, that cell/zoomed in area is very, very high
res and extraordinarily sharp.

As I shoot and bore, this and other boards to tears, with "views", I know the weakness of stitching
and the lack of higher res at great distances and when shooting wide scenes. Yes, it is post processing
but it is also a remarkable "capture" method.
That's what I know...for less than 4 Bens, it is on my short list.
