Cape man arrested after seen fondling sex dolls in Publix parking lot

By Naples Daily News staff report
Updated 04:53 p.m., February 5, 2009

Officers arrested a Cape Coral man Wednesday after witnesses said he masturbated with two blow-up dolls in the front row parking space of a Publix Supermarket.

George J. Bartusek Jr., 51, of 559 SE 33rd Terrace, was arrested on charges of trespassing after a warning and breach of the peace. According to his report, Officer Jeffrey Karau was called to the parking lot of the supermarket, located at 2420 Santa Barbara Boulevard in Cape Coral, after reports of a disturbance.

When he arrived, Karau said he saw a large crowd gathered around a beige Lincoln Town Car.

“On my arrival, numerous people at the vehicle began yelling to me and pointing inside the vehicle,” Karau said.

Bartusek then exited the vehicle and handed Karau his wallet, according to the report.

“While standing at the vehicle I saw two undressed, flesh-colored, female-formed blow-up dolls, one in the rear seat and one in the front passenger seat,” Karau wrote in the report.

The report said a Publix manager asked Bartusek to leave because customers were complaining, the report said. Karau said he took statements from six witnesses, who reportedly said Bartusek was performing what appeared to be “masturbation and other simulated sexual activity” with both of the dolls.

Karau said there were children in the car directly next to Bartusek’s. He said the children saw what appeared to be Bartusek masturbating with and aggressively kissing a blow-up doll.

The report does not state whether Bartusek exposed his genitals, but does say he was wearing shorts with a 3-inch long opening in the front.

Bartusek reportedly said he was parked in the space in order to visit a nearby Target to “get some clothes for his dolls.”

Photos from the crime scene provided by the City of Cape Coral show one of the dolls was illustrated to appear completely naked, the other to appear wearing a string bra with thong underwear. Both female dolls were anatomically correct. Other than the dolls, the dashboard in front of the driver’s seat had three packages of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and a pack of king size Pall Mall Menthol cigarettes in a hard pack.

Connie Barron, spokeswoman with the City of Cape Coral, said she believed there was an initial confusion among officers over what charges they would choose to arrest Bartusek on.

“This was quite a departure from the typical police call, and I think initially there was some discussion among the officers as to what exactly, what he would be charged with,” Barron said. “I don’t think you find many breach of peace charges against people who are arrested. I don’t know if anyone actually saw him expose himself.”

According to the report, additional charges of lewd conduct are pending against Bartusek. Barron said such a charge would be unusual.

“Can you perform a lewd and lascivious act on a doll?,” Barron said. “I don’t know.”

Samantha Syoen, spokeswoman with the state attorney’s office, said she’s never heard of anything like that.
“Not in the two years I’ve been working here,” Syoen said.

Barron said it appeared Bartusek may have wanted to be arrested.
“It appeared to me he was parked very prominently,” Barron said. “It was like he wanted to get caught.”

According to arrest bookings on the Lee County Sheriff's Office Web site, Bartusek has been arrested twice on charges of driving under the influence since 1997. In his first DUI arrest, which occurred in October 2003, Bartusek was also arrested on charges of resisting an officer without violence and assaulting an officer.
