Woman's record-length fingernails broken in crash

A woman who was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest fingernails lost the nails in a car crash. Lee Redmond of Salt Lake City, Utah, was seriously injured in the car accident.

Lee Redmond's fingernails were approximately 33 inches long. Her nails which had not been cut since 1979 has been featured on TV in episodes of "Guinness Book of World and "Ripley's Believe It or Not."

Her injuries were serious but not life threatening. Unfortunately her fingernails were broken off in the crash according to Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Redmond was a passenger in an SUV which hit the side of another vehicle in Salt Lake City. That vehicle then hit a third vehicle and the SUV went up on a sidewalk, through a chain-link fence. It then went back on the road and hit a fourth vehicle according to Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson

Redmond was a passenger in the SUV and was ejected from the vehicle. She along with the driver were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the SUV was pinned in the vehicle and suffered a broken ankle. The driver is listed in critical condition and Redmond in serious condition.
