new F1 rules...

This is ridiculous.

Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has approved a change to the points systems for this year’s drivers’ championship, which will see the title awarded to the driver with the most race wins. The rest of the standings, from second to last place, will be decided by the current points system.

If two or more drivers finish the season with the same number of wins, the title will be awarded to the driver with the most points, the allocation of points being based on the existing structure...

Many reasons:

The champion can be crowned by the middle of the season
A driver can finish 2nd in EVERY race, another driver can win 2 races and DNF in all the others and still be champion.

There are a lot of permutations of this that will wreak havoc with naming a champion.

It only rewards winning a race which makes it a dumb rule...what happened to consistency??

Most likely another Ferrari/McLaren fight...unless we will have some hefty surprises...but I doubt any of the drivers from Renault or BMW can win on a consistent race to race basis.

I am sure this rule will be taken out just as the 'no tire change' was ...

Personally - I think it will have little effect. In most F1 seasons where it would've changed the outcome it would've produced a fairer result. But that misses the point that in the vast majority of F1 seasons it would have had absolutely zero effect on the championship result.

Hamilton wouldn't have been champ last year with this rule.

just sayin'.....

Have to agree, not too fond of these new rules. I like the fact that the past few years the driver's championship came down to the last race. Keeps people entertained. I think the intensity would take a hit if someone was crowned champ mid-season. Takes away the drama.

i think they know what they are doing. typically the driver who wins the most races does win the championship. (correct me if i'm wrong) i like the rule, to be a champion you have to win races. makes sense to me. (They also made the cars follow new aero rules that will/should allow for more/easier passing) i think it will breed more competition. and since the champion is decided on wins there will be more of a fight to win that race. might have to worry about kimi letting massa pass freely when it comes down to it, just to let massa get a W.

we shall see.

and just for good measure. KUBICA!
