This is already be asked on the M5 boards but...

I was wondering if any of you guys had experience with this issue.

My friend has a 2001 M5. For some odd reason it will not go over 100mph. As soon as he hits 100 the engine bogs as though it is in a "limp mode".

Any theories??

My theory is that it may have an incorrect software setting on the speed limiter that is triggering at 100 mph.

Yup, Sounds like he is hitting the software speed limiter.

My theory is you should tell your friend to just give it to me for a while and I'll spend the weekend (maybe more) trying to figure it out

Take it to the dealer and see if they'd be willing to check/reset the software. I thought the M5 was limited to 155 like the E46 M3?

Yea thats terrible, 100 is just where the M5 gets to be fun. As UCrew said, sounds like the software is not installed correctly -- back to the dealer it goes for a re-program....
