for a great match...the V8 engine is well done, but the car is close to 4,000 lbs.
This Pony/MuscleCar redux is probably overdone and too narrowly focused, imo.

Though I think that all three of the cars show the high quality that the weak three can produce. They have come a long way and now I think they are worth saving.

Personally, I don't understand what anyone sees in them.

The only way this car could look worse is if it were pushed off of a cliff. It took them way to long to get this thing to production and the stylig is already old, IMO. Top that off with another gag-me interior and I am baffled. I don't see how anyone can think this is actually a good looking car. Exterior looks-wise, the Mustang dominates this thing. I can not even begin to understand how someone could walk into a dealership and willingly hand over money for this or a Challenger for that matter.

I guess I misunderstood, I thought it was pushed off a cliff.

I see Rubbermaid interiors are still alive and well at GM

I think the new Camaro is a 'nice' looking ride, but not sure how much further it can go. I would say the same of the Challenger (which I also like). IMO, I think the Camaro is probably hitting the market at the wrong time, but I'm sure initial sales will be very good. It is definitely more than solid competition for the entry Challengers and GT Mustang, so it seems like it is the late '60s all over again. I haven't liked Camaros since 1993 when they decided to switch the look drastically. If I had extra funds rolling around and another garage slot, I'd park one of those next to the Shelby

Not too surprised by some comments here as most of us are only Euro fans, and very limited domestically as far as rides we've owned or had a passion for. Very few people who call them selves enthusiasts are enthusiastic about anything but one label. Few would appreciate the history or what the car is attempting to do as far as rekindling what Mustang again started. That said, I don't think an GM designer thought "this will pull sales from BMW", pretty sure they were focused on Mustang/Challenger, IMO, and creating something cheaper than a mid-40's vette.

Muscle car arena has always had a narrow focus. I fully agree, I don't get the 20's, didn't understand them on the Challenger either. I remember driving the GT500 and someone saying "why doesn't it have 20's?", hmm because they would be completely unnecessary for what this car is trying to achieve, save the 20's for SUVs and ricers Keep in mind the competition MD, the Shelby tips the scales at 3900lbs. So that combo isn't so off of the competition.

Is everyone here REALLY that much of a "euro-fan" vs. a car enthusiast? I've never had any interest in BMW except for the X5 and the 8 series.

As you said, I believe the Camaro will sell like hotcakes to those who are passionate about it - those who have missed it - and those who are looking for more "American muscle"; that will take care of the first and second year. After that, I think it will die on the vine just as the previous models did. Especially if they repeat the mistakes of the past:
  1. A boring interior
  2. No real rear seat room
  3. A body too big for the interior room it provides
  4. An ultra cheap ragtop that will be lucky to last a year without damage to the cloth from the framework
  5. a body that moves like to floor of a funhouse when the roof is cut off
  6. no wind control to speak of for the vert
The real death of the car will be that after more than a few have been sold and you start seeing them at every intersection, people will start to realize how 'un-special' they are. It is a car that needs to be sold in high volume to be sucessful, and that alone will keep many from buying one.
