BMW started using the twin grills in the 1930's. Perhaps you'll recognize this vehicle. It was part of the 2009 BMW car show display.



It was then ripped off by Bristol in the 1940's.



It wasn't until 1961 when Pontiac began splitting their grills into two.

Come on gresch. Pontiac strayed from the kidney grills numerous times over the years. Kidney grills have been constant over at BMW for 70 years or more. BMW owns that and you know it. I have read more than one article that called the G8 a DNA copy of previous BMW models. They copied the design heavily. I don't blame them, but dont make excuses.

Yeah but that's a flat grille with a center divider.... not fully separate grilles.

gresch, Over half the cars in your link don't have kidney grills. I don't get it.

Look at the history of BMW design and get back to us.

1/2 is more than none. Pontiac still had them first, which is what I said.

When you think of modern day kidney grills (past 40 years or so) I personally think BMW, I don't think Grand Am. Every modern day BMW has had them.

You guys are twisting this around, I never said that BMW didn't have them or that BMW isn't known for them, jeeeez, relax. I said that Pontiac had them first, they did, that's it.
