People who buy an F150 put 150k miles on it. Who cares what it's worth in 3 years?
Hey! Just because it cost nearly 10G's to fix the electronics in my 645 means nothing!! Or that my E46M3 needed new weatherstripping after 6 months, 3er needed leather repaired, 545 had adaptive handling die, X5 transmission needed repair after 10,000 miles...these are not issues because the interior was awesome

We all knew where this discussion would go

Did you pay for the repairs or were they covered by BMW?

If you want good interior get a VW

I would love to have a C6 Z06 or ZR1 in my driveway. If only my wife would see things my way.

I know what side my butter is breaded on. I'm on a no more cars plan - as it is I'm really fortunate to have a few in the stable so she has been pretty good about it so far.

Come on...how long have you been here? You should know I'd never own a BMW without a warranty for just the above reasons. Not big on spending tens of thousands of dollars on repairs

Well, we know GM isn't failing because of the Vette. It's failing because UAW has had them by the balls for decades, and GM can no longer afford to feed and medicate the old union geeezers who happen to have worked on their assembly line back in the 1970s and 80s. Ditto for Chrysler. Ford is still treading water, but I sort of like my body in one piece, so I'd never buy one. Ford's safety history (or lack thereof) easily provides a full year of American law schools' curriculum.

Shame about GM though...the Vette is the greatest bang-for-buck sports car ever made.

One thing is clear: GM and Ford did not lose a million annual sales apiece because their costs were too high. Those sales were lost because the product, particularly the passenger cars, did not hit enough high spots. You want to cover your cost and make a profit? Make a product someone want's to buy.

Believe the whole auto industry fell from 16M sales to 9M sales.

Disagree. Everyone's sales are down, bigtime. Toyota. BMW. Honda. EVERYONE. This recession doesn't discriminate. The reason Toyota and Honda aren't on the verge of bankruptcy is exactly BECAUSE their costs are lower. Their "man-hour" on the assembly line is what, like 2-fold cheaper than GM/Ford? The unions have asphyxiated the Big Three. Toyota/Honda/BMW etc. are able to survive the sales drop because there is no union overhead and no Gazillion-dollar Health Pension Plan to maintain. As far as the products: they were in some cases inferior to the Japanese, but not by such a huge margin.
