If you use Hydroxycut..stop

WASHINGTON — Government health officials are announcing the recall of popular weight loss pill Hydroxycut, after reports of liver damage and other health problems.

Food and Drug Administration officials said Friday the manufacturer of Hydroxycut has launched a nationwide recall of the dietary supplement, used by people trying to shed pounds and by body builders to sharpen their muscles.

Hydroxycut is advertised as made from natural ingredients. It accounts for about 90 percent of the market for weight loss supplements, with sales of about 1 million bottles a year.

Dietary supplements are not as tightly regulated by the government as medications. Manufacturers don't need FDA approval ahead of time before marketing their products.

I was on Hydroxycut while studying for the bar. I developed a protein buildup in my kidneys, and it had me peeing red (no blood in urine, thank goodness).

Holy crap! I guess you learned the hard way.

We are such a performance-oriented society, it's just sad how good folks literally WRECK their insides just to get that slight performance and/or look edge. There is just so much bio-chemical crap out there (both legal and illegal) that young folks do not even consider what long-term damage they are causing to their internal organs. I am living proof that you never have to take a single drop of steroids, or any of these "crap" supplements to get to a 400-pound bench/500-pound squat. Nothing but good old salads, tuna, salmon, eggs, and the occasional Protein Power Bar, plus a lot of hours in the gym. Slow and steady wins the race, and you also won't need a liver transplant by the time you're 50.

I see it every day in the gym: guys strutting around with over-inflated pecs and biceps who "appear" to be the picture of strength, health, and virility.(after a while it's easy to spot "roid heads" based on certain body proportions, as well as the occasional acne, and specific body odor). In reality, their insides are a "car wreck" with their endocrine systems struggling in vain to stabilize the right proportions of hormones and neurotransmitters. They deceive themselves that they've figured out a safe approach, with "proper" dosages, recommended cycling regimens, and so forth. Instant results, instant gratification, and success in sports and social life outweigh all other health considerations. And then a few years later, when they're doubled over in pain from renal insufficiency or can't walk a hundred yards due to permanent heart valve problems, they may or may not think back on those days when they wanted to be the "hare" instead of the "tortoise".

FDA Warns Consumers to Stop Using Hydroxycut Products
Dietary Supplements Linked to One Death; Pose Risk of Liver Injury

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to immediately stop using Hydroxycut products by Iovate Health Sciences Inc., of Oakville, Ontario and distributed by Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc. of Blasdell, N.Y. Some Hydroxycut products are associated with a number of serious liver injuries. Iovate has agreed to recall Hydroxycut products from the market.

The FDA has received 23 reports of serious health problems ranging from jaundice and elevated liver enzymes, an indicator of potential liver injury, to liver damage requiring liver transplant. One death due to liver failure has been reported to the FDA. Other health problems reported include seizures; cardiovascular disorders; and rhabdomyolysis, a type of muscle damage that can lead to other serious health problems such as kidney failure.

Liver injury, although rare, was reported by patients at the doses of Hydroxycut recommended on the bottle. Symptoms of liver injury include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes) and brown urine. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite.

“The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risk. Adverse events are rare, but exist. Consumers should consult a physician or other health care professional if they are experiencing symptoms possibly associated with these products,” said Linda Katz, M.D., interim chief medical officer of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

Hydroxycut products are dietary supplements that are marketed for weight-loss, as fat burners, as energy-enhancers, as low carb diet aids, and for water loss under the Iovate and MuscleTech brand names. The list of products being recalled by Iovate currently includes:

Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
Hydroxycut 24
Hydroxycut Carb Control
Hydroxycut Natural

Although the FDA has not received reports of serious liver-related adverse reactions for all Hydroxycut products, Iovate has agreed to recall all the products listed above. Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia products are not affected by the recall. Consumers who have any of the products involved in the recall are advised to stop using them and to return them to the place of purchase. The agency has not yet determined which ingredients, dosages, or other health-related factors may be associated with risks related to these Hydroxycut products. The products contain a variety of ingredients and herbal extracts.

Health care professionals and consumers are encouraged to report serious adverse events (side effects) or product quality problems with the use of these products to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online, by regular mail, fax or phone.

–Online: MedWatch Online Adverse Event Reporting
–Regular Mail: Use FDA postage paid form 3500 found at: MedWatch - Download reporting forms and mail to MedWatch, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787
–Fax: 800-FDA-0178
–Phone: 800-FDA-1088

The FDA continues to investigate the potential relationship between Hydroxycut dietary supplements and liver injury or other potentially serious side effects.

Milk Thistle, as you probably already know, is supposed to be good in treating chronic liver disease and fighiting off toxins.

JeeshhHMurphy...
Buy a pair of sneaks, put them on, go out the door early every morning;
turn left and walk 20-30 mins one day. Next day, turn right. Repeat for
a couple months...the lbs will roll off. I'm a potential 250# guy hiding inside
my 212 lb body.
If it wasn't for walking/daily activities, I would have to quit my daily dark
chocolate Jones, lol!
