$33,000+ It had an added sport/weather package - leather seating area, heated seats etc.

Curious, why are people saying the G8 is a V8, it is only that in GT form

I think most people (including myself) assume we would be comparing the V8 version because it is more on the level with BMW performance numbers. Pretty much every single BMW currently in production would walk on the V6 G8 as far as acceleration is concerned and we all know the BMW should handle better, so there would literally be no comparison between a V6 G8 and any BMW, IMO.

For some reason it seems like it takes nearly 50-100 more HP from most American cars to even hang with an underpowered BMW, so comparing equal HP cars from the two manufacturers doesn't make sense in most cases.

I also assumed that we were comparing performance figures because we all knew that interior and other aspects weren't even a contest.

Not to mention the massive (and dangerous) blind spot at the A pillar......, the (I make Idrive look easy) USELESS trip computer interface, the high waist for the rear windows (try taking kids who cannot see out of the back windows on a long trip), the axle tramp/shudder, tram lining on certain surfaces, agricultural electronic stability control, HORRIBLE coloured illuminated dials (red is almost impossible to read the speedo), uncomfortable seats and THEN there are the quality and performance issues......

Cheers

J

Cheers

Once again, a $50k BMW is compared to a $30k domestic. Apples to oranges.

It's like saying "has anyone compared a house in an affluent area to a house in a blue collar neighborhood" and being surprised that the blue collar neighborhood house isn't as nice.

Take the $20k diff between the G8 and the bimmer and either:
1) use it to mod the G8 so it's more upscale
2) pocket it and go drive

The G8 won't fall apart, it will start everytime you put your key in it, and it will haul ass. What more did you expect? A $50k car interior? Nope, that's why it's $30k and not $50k.

Come on guys, compare apples to apples.

gresch - I agree a bit but I know why people compare. However a more compatible move would have been a MB vs a BMW or at least a Acura or Cadillac, IMO.

I initially thought I might have been comparing apples to apples when I first saw the G8 body and equipment package. I actually hoped I would be. I don't always buy the $50K vs. $30k argument when it comes to design. The interior of the G8 - regardless of the price - was dated and not appealing for a driver who is interested and cares about their surroundings while motoring. That is too bad - price should not always dictate design and I think Pontiac designers and engineers could have put more effort into the product. If an auto company can't even get a potential customer to sit in the car, how will they get them to buy one?! IMO......

For you maybe, not everyone is looking for some type of driving experience. Some just want to go from point A to point B. There are plenty of people out there who can't understand why anyone would pay for a BMW considering the grossly high cost of the vehicle and maintenance on it once out of warranty. That is where buyers find a balance. Most families with little kids throwing french-fries around the back seat or soccer cleats banging on the drivers seat don't want to have to worry about the Nappa leather that was a $1800.00 option on their ride

I see what you're saying, but design costs money as well as the materials, and both are directly related to MSRP.

Don't you think that if the materials and design of a Pontiac G8 @ $30k = the design and materials of a BMW @$50k that GM would not be declaring bankruptcy? They'ld be selling cars like crazy, and their ad campaign would be "we're better than BMW for $20k less".
