Decided I'd read enough about iPhone OS 3.0 and that I needed it on my iPhone 3G now!

What a simple process this is this internet world of ours. Found out exact file name of golden version that I needed. Downloaded it from torrent. Installed on iPhone 3G via iTunes. Whole process took less than less than an hour.

Now have iPhone OS 3.0 installed. No data lost. All looks good. Now need to see what the new features are...

[iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is for iPhone 3G. iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is for iPhone 2G (or original iPhone)]

I downloaded the file for the update. But how did you get iTunes to recognize it and load it on your iPhone?

Figured it out for a Mac:
1.Connect the phone to iTunes.
2. Hold down the Option button and press "Check for Update."
3. Browse to the ISPW file that you want to upload.
4. Wait for the upgrade magic to happen!

I have a few basic iPhone questions:
I hd been using a BB 8300, with a 2008 x5. The 8300 worked great.

2 weeks ago, I upgraded to a new AT&T 8900, because I was too stupid to wait. I have a lot of problems with this phone. The battery life is 1/3 the life I had with the 8300. Also, the "load only selected categories" for the bluetooth address book, no longer works. Which means that the Blackberry loads 1000 contacts to the BMW, every time. I also have assorted MAC / PC synchronization problems.

I am thinking of returning the 8900 for a new iPhone 3gs, 32 geg.

I am currently using the BB for the phone and my iPod touch w/iPod adapter, so I have the "best of both worlds." My BMW service adviser told me that "it is not recommended" to use an iPhone for both bluetooth phone and ipod music in the BMW. I really don't want to walk around with both an iPhone and an iPod. I also don't want to get into the 2nd profile, iTunes issue, because Apple fails to realize that people could own multiple devices.

So in a nutshell, how will an iPhone behave in a BMW when connected to both the bluetooth and the iPod adaptor?

How does the address book transfer work? Is there a way to control which contacts are loaded to the car?

Yes, it's similar for Windows. One would hold down Shift while clicking "Check for Update", then browse to the IPSW file, etc.

All I can tell you is in my 530i it's flawless.
Music with all functions and phone calls.
Both incoming and outgoing via bluetooth.

The address books transfers via bluetooth.
But i don't recall anything that would allow
the iPhone or the BMW to control which
contacts are loaded to the car.

Never had an issue using my iphone to play music and bluetooth, your SA is daydreaming. The phone book gets loaded automatically via bluetooth, so way to select which contacts are loaded.

Considering BMW makes adapter devices specifically to utilize and enhance the functions of an iPhone, I'm amazed your SA would say this. He's losing an opportunity to sell you the iPhone snap in adapter.

If he is this bad, I'd consider drop kicking him to the curb and finding another SA because this guy is obviously not reading and understanding the BMW service bulletins.
