Verizon like to charge extra for GPS and other features, and therefore they turn off gps and look down the phones they sell. I don't know how that would work with a I-Phone?

uh, that's not true. The GPS on my storm is not locked down and works perfectly with google maps.

My Blackberry World Edition was lock down, did they change the practice or did you hack the phone?

No verizon bberry i've ever used (including the 8830 world edition) has had the gps locked out. And no I did not hack any of them.

Just because VZW charges for their Turn By Turn GPS directions service if you choose to sign up for it does not mean that the GPS function on the phone is locked out. In fact, the TBT service needs the GPS function on the phone to be able to determine where you are so that the TBT service can actually work.

Looking at Palm's history, they have released their phones on multiple carriers in the U.S. My Centro has been available for Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon and also available as unlocked GSM phone.

. Here in Dallas, AT&T works great (I have the Blackberry Bold)--have had them for 8 years now (back when it was AT&T Wireless, then Cingular and now AT&T). It really depends on where you are as far as what carrier works best. Everybody on the show The Hills has an iPhone so it must work out there

A lot of carrier strength has to do with the old RBOC alignments since they each started to offer cell service along with local and long distance. In CA, the old GTE RBOCs turned into Verizon so they have a good presence there along with SBC that turned into AT&T. East coast has a lot of old GTE so Verizon is strong there. Sprint is based in Kansas City--so a lot of states around there have heavy Sprint users. AT&T just moved their national headquarters from San Antonio to here in Dallas--safe to assume we shouldn't have too many phone issues.

I hate overpaying for Verizon, I'm out of contract now and just waiting for a great deal to come up somewhere. It would be really great for Sprint to get the iPhone, $99 unlimited would go great with it
