Coulda been worse. I've had a lot of friends cars get totalled cuz of those. You know what they say, a nice car is the best weapon for deer hunting.

Good line, D! Haven't heard that since I left Michigan, in '75...
I personally always liked my 40 yr old .300 Savage I
inherited from my grandfather.

The X5 definitely fared better than the deer. Could have been worse, it could have been a moose.

A few weeks back some guy in Georgia hit a horse on his way to work in the morning. Apparently, it was pretty early and the sun wasn't up yet. Nobody knew why the horse was in the road, but it ended up killing the driver because it crashed through the windshield of his car.

With a moose, all you'll do is take out his legs, so he falls (with 1,000+++ lbs) falling directly over the driver. Not a good scenario.

Agreed.

It sounded like that is what happened with the horse as well. Tall horse, low car. It is not as heavy as a moose, but still plenty big enough to do damage, obviously.

Really naive sounding, but are there even deer down in upstate GA/SC? My buddy and I hit the curvy roads in the evening / late night all the time and I've yet to see one. I did own a possum though. Leg juice is still on my windshield.

Gross.

There are many deer here in my area. I live in the northern burbs of Atlanta and I see them in my yard from time to time.

I took a road trip to south Georgia last weekend and saw one on the side of the road somewhere south of Macon, which is an hour or so south of Atlanta. I am not sure how far south they are found though to tell you the truth.

Yes, in SC, GA, NC, TN, etc., etc. I really can't think of a state that
does not have a good size deer population .

I don't see them frequently in the more rugged, higher elevations, but
if there is stuff to eat, (farms, 'burbs, gardens), Bambi is there. Rats
with antlers. Also, lots of big turkeys, coyotes, feral pigs/boar, bear, et al.

I've lost my taste, night vision and skills/courage for night driving.
Be careful out there.
