I don't know if you have much of a case. The idea is that you need to prepare to stop when it turns yellow. Yellow lights are timed so that it gives you enough time to stop if you are going the speed limit. Or so the theory goes.Good luck in any case.

Must be one hell of a short yellow if he was at the crosswalk when the light was green and he's in the intersection and it's already red.

Exactly, my front bumper is right at the start of the crosswalk. The light is green (can't see the color, but it is the bottom position of the traffic light).

I'm pretty sure the red light cameras in NY are triggered if you cross the crosswalk after the light is already yellow. Strange that the camera caught you on a green.

It's always important to look sharp when running a red.

Got one of these in NYC a year ago. Tried to appeal it through the mail by saying the yellow was way too short (which it was). Didn't get anywhere, it was my word against theirs. I wound up paying it, since you don't get points against your license anyway. It's the equivalent of a parking ticket. As Last5oh so aptly pointed out above, it really is just a CASH-GRAB. A government racket to fleece motorists by placing the cameras at high-speed intersections, while simultaneously shortening the yellows. So you've got 2 choices: 1) Stop on a dime as soon as you see it turn yellow and get rammed up your A$$ by the tailgater 2 inches behind you...or 2) "gun" it on the yellow to prevent the inevitable rear-ender, and wait patiently for the ticket in the mail.

It does seem odd that you are so close to the crossing and the light is green then it is red as soon as you cross. Either a very quick yellow or you were travelling about 5 mph.
Or maybe you stopped right at the crossing for a quick coffee and donut before coninuing. Still it's a big fine. I feel for you.
I tried in France to contest a photo. Gave up in the end and paid.

Why I LOVE having out of state tags. I also took off my front. Not an option for you if you live in a police-state, but it looks like thats how they're done in WA. I think that ticket cameras are complete crap. I would always just send it back saying I wasn't driving.

At least down here the camera hits you from behind, that way you see the light you were driving past in the pic. They set the cameras up behind the intersection because we don't have front plates in LA.

Side story 1, my brother had the alternator die in his 03 'stang, brought the battery down to nothin leaving him on the side of the road. I borght him an extra battery I had to get him home and followed him to his house in case it died again... Keep in mind this is late at night so he had to have the lights on. A camera'd light turned yellow to the point that we should have stopped, but he gunned it! I had to follow... He got a red light ticket but I did not, realized the temporary paper licence plate had fallen from the back window! They had nothin to go on!

Side story 2... When I was in NJ for training I got on what I think must have been the turnpike? I paid a toll to get on then just stayed in the left lane until I had to exit for the airport. Months later I got a ticket in the mail for not pulling to the side of the road to pay further tolls...? I thought the other toll booth were at the exits? Didn't know you had to pull over repeatedly to pay again and again?!? I was driving a rented toyota matrix, so I guess enterprise gave my info to the police? The further north or west I go the more I miss home.
