Global warming mean, ahh bigger glaciers?

Perito Moreno Glacier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that are not retreating. The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 kilometres (3 mi) wide, with an average height of 60 m (200 ft) above the surface of the water of Lake Argentino, in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 metres (558 ft). It advances at a speed of up to 2 metres (6.6 ft) per day (around 700 metres (2,300 ft) per year), although it loses mass at approximately the same rate, meaning that aside from small variations, its terminus has not advanced or receded in the past 90 years. At its deepest part, the glacier has a depth of approximately 700 metres (2,300 ft).

Meanwhile, record cold across Canada:

Canada frosts the most widespread in recent memory

And closer to home, we've had the most consecutive double-digit high temperatures (sub-100F) in Phoenix for the month of June since 1967.

Sub-100 temperatures expected to continue

I must be missing something. From your link:

All except for three glaciers in Patagonia are retreating (meaning melting faster than they are advancing).

This particular one is advancing at the same rate it is melting, or reducing mass. It is getting smaller, but because it is sliding down the hill the toe has been at the same point for 90 years now.

Which of the above points supports the concept of glaciers getting bigger (your headline)? Your quote actually supports the opposite of your headline.

Think you took the headline a little too seriously. And the fact that ice is 2300 feet thick and has stayed the same over 90 years, doesn't bode well for "RUN FOR COVER" humans are killing the planet

Wagner, you don't think global warming is for real?

YouTube - Global Warming Then and Now

I know the dark music is cheesy, but it was the only video of photos I could find on short notice.

I think there are plenty of images that illustrate the melting of ice caps and such over the years. What humans are doing to the planet can't be positive on any level and with the increasing population it has to be getting worse.

Edit; Sorry, couldn't get the YouTube link to work the first time.

Do I believe the planet heats and cools? Yes. Do I believe human existence has had some remote impact? Yes. Do I think we have had the scale of impact most would have you believe? No.

This is my feeling on the matter as well. The hysteria is just that, hysteria. While the media and AlGore show only one side of the issue, the other side of the issue exists, and is backed up by contrary scientific evidence. More study is needed. People seem to forget that at one point in the history of the earth, the glaciers melted. So obviously, without people around, the earth was once very cold, but it got warmer. And this global warming is what allowed humans to be able to inhabit the earth.

Highlighting more of the hysteria, take a look at this video.

If I thought there was widespread hysteria, as suggested in another post, then I could agree with that summary. I do believe human actions have had a significant impact. Just because there was warming and cooling before human influence, doesn't mean that human influence doesn't exist. That is simply flawed logic. If you accept that the greenhouse effect is what makes our planet habitable, and that CO2 concentrations influence earth's temperature (generally agreed back in the 1920's), and that CO2 concentrations have increased markedly since the 1930's (they are measurable), then it isn't much of a leap to believe that man's CO2 emissions have influenced the climate. It isn't about the temperature, it is about the rate of change of the temperature.

So this has nothing to do with a hot day in one city, or extreme frost in Canada, and maybe that is where the hysteria comes from. Some of us don't follow Al Gore, we spend more time watching Dr. David Suzuki, or Sir David Attenborough

Put me down as an unwavering defender of that which I believe is worth protecting, and to me our planet is on that list.

Since we are on a You-Tube track, here is a good one for those interested, without hysteria, although it does have some good laughs about what the American Idol generation know to be true. Worth watching, and it isn't anti-American:

The American Denial of Global Warming
