VA State Police write nearly 16k tickets over 3 days.

Oh, right this is all for safety. Anyone driving through VA must have noticed the increased enforcement. On my way home, there were 5 speed traps in 200km, and one was actually using laser

The Virginia Gazette - News - No holiday for State Police

Quote:
RICHMOND – The Fourth of July holiday weekend was a busy one for Virginia State Police.

Troopers wrote 15,800 citations for traffic violations, with nearly half (7,390) for speeding. Another 2,140 reckless drivers were cited, and police arrested 129 people on drunk driving charges.

There were 10 fatalities among 562 accidents, matching the death toll for a four-day Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2008. Two people were killed in an accident in Norfolk. Other fatalities occurred in Accomack, Buchanan, Buckingham, Chesterfield, Henrico, Montgomery, Prince George and Rockingham counties.

During the holiday weekend, 75% of the State Police’s uniformed workforce was on duty.

7,390 for speeding, glad that Va has nothing better to do than get speeders. While I applaud pulling over the drunks, man that must be a safe state.

How does: 7390 + 129 + 2,140 => 15,800?

Be interesting to know how many speeding tickets went to out of staters and what the average is during the year between Fri morning and Mon evening.

I guess there is one up side.
The state coffers are filling up.

They're supposedly "broke" so they've closed half of all the rest stops in the state.

Hard to skip VA, going south from NJ...unless you go way west or,
take a boat.

Not my fave state to drive through either. The southern/western stretch
of I-81 is quite rural but sticks to the ridiculous 65 mph, and the State
Revenue Cops are hiding out in the bushes, like weeds.

Got my only ticket in the last 2 decades there, a couple years ago, and it was a
BS ticket. But, the vertically challenged state cop was nearly verbally abusive,
so I shut up. What a punqueazz "program", imo and doubtful it has any real world
impact on accidents, speeds, catching real bad guys, etc.
