I'm confused, does this report shed more light to what we already know? This is exactly what's been reported.... and it's one side of the story, the police version.

Did Gates refute the part about refusing to show ID?

This really turns my gears. I really hate it when people use the race card (and I'm Mexican too) to get their way with society. I know there are two sides to every story, but damn....all the guy had to do was show his ID and problem solved.

Now for Mr. Gates side of the story.
Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. speaks out on racial profiling after his arrest by Cambridge police.

I am shocked at what Gates admits to and doesn't see his error. I've seen him on TV a number of times and he always seemed to be intelligent and thoughtful. I really like what he has to say and I've learned some important points from his shows as well.
After reading what Gates said in this interview I don't know why he is surprised and outraged. He caused the issue. To tell a policeman no and then to not answer a question seems stupid. Let's see what outcome might there be? Obama should get his facts straight before he goes off at the mouth. Gates should reconsider how he got himself into this mess. Easy to prove who is telling a lie. The professor says he did NOT yell, he had a medical reason. The group of on-lookers (non police) can verify if was yelling from his front porch. Simple

If a cop accosts me while I am lawfully in my own house... me and that officer, white, black, brown, or other... will have a problem.
Frankly, being subject to racial profiling myself, I wouldn't go as far as saying that the officer was "profiling" the professor when he responded to the call. At most, things got testy between an officer and a civilian. I do, however, find it remarkable that the professor's own neighbor mistook him for an intruder and failed to recognize his own neighbor. That, I do find to have elements of racial profiling. I would hope my own neighbors know me well enough to not mistake me for a burgular. Last edited by Krimson X; 07-24-2009 at 01:28 PM. |

That's a problem statement Krimson. If you just ran over someone, drove home and went into your house, you don't think the police would (and legally can) come into your house? Silly
