Starting to look for a new car.

I am starting to look for a new car to replace my ’02 4.4i. I was just going to upgrade to a ’03 4.6is but the dealer sold it...so now I am looking at the following cars:

2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged
2006 Range Rover Supercharged
2004 BMW X5 4.8is
2004 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

If I were to get the 2006 Range Rover, I would have to wait until next spring to get it. The X5 4.8is looks good, but my only thing about it is that the new body style is going to be coming out next year and I don’t want to pay a lot for it because of that…

I don’t know what it is about the full size Range Rover, but I really like it, but my only issue with it is that quality of the car and how many issues I could have with it.

The Cayenne is all for the speed…not at all the looks.

Any other ideas?

Very good choices there..........my 1st choice would be the '04 X5 4.8is, but I do really like that Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

I would have to drive both of them right after each other & make my decision then, but since I haven't driven the RR Supercharged, I would pick the 4.8is.
You are right about the Cayenne - speed & drive only, definitely not for looks.....so that rules it out for me. With the 4.8is & RR sc, you have the whole package.........

I went and test drove the Sport HSE, they didn't have any supercharged sports on the lot...it drove really good and had about the same pick up as my 4.4i, but I felt that the interior had a "cheap" feel to it compared to the full size range rover or the X.

Great choices, I have seen one Range Rover sport in the street the other day, it looks really good. Range Rover has always made great looking cars, however the quality has always been an issue... The Cayenne is probably the worst as far as gas consumption, but fun and a good looking car for sure. The 4.8 probably would be the best choice in my opinion, more efficient engine and nicer interior. Maybe you should wait a few month to find out what the next X5 is going to be like?

All points lead back to the X. Not just because we love em'

Range Rover-Thought RR had problems before-wait till the superchargers start with their problems! You might as well put the $700 per month in the bank! Not to mention, as you know, you don't buy a first year model. Also, you gotta wait for it till next year, you might as well wait for the new X.

Porsche-If you only like it because its fast, six months from purchase you are going to look at it and say "Wow, that is one ugly F$&#(#g car, but its fast" and then trade it in because you can't stand the sight of it.

So, the answer is, X5 now, or wait just like you would have to with the RR. One thing to also consider on the new X, even though we all love our X's, the "don't buy the 1st year" still applys. Good Luck with whatever you chose!

I'd go for the Range Rover Supercharged if money's not an object. It's a unibody at least, not a truck chassis like the old mercedes ml's, the lr3's. It also has a big difference in interior quality compared to the sport. Problem is like ds0709 said, I'd worry about the reliability of the superchargers.

The cayenne would be the LAST on my list. It's just too fugly for me.

If i were you, I'd wait for the new X5's to come out. And if that turns out ugly as well. Then get the last of the 4.8's

I just went through the exact same scenario. RR S/C was way too expensive, and the RRS S/C is being marked up ridiculous amounts b/c they are new and hard to come by. They look good, but are still pretty slow even with the S/C. I find it hard to believe that the HSE would feel as quick as the 4.4, and if you look at performance #s, it is definitely not close.
I looked at the Cayenne, but it seemed overpriced. The used 4.8is was the choice for me. I just got it less than a month ago and it is an incredible truck, although the ride is a bit rough.

I'd wait a few months. Surely, by late Spring or early Summer we will know the specs and looks of the new X5. I can only assume they'll make it better, faster... Unless you absolutely, positively NEED a new car now, why not wait?

One other point I just thought of, you are in Oh, winters coming. Less room to move price wise if that is a concern. Just another 2 cents.
