ML 55 AMG?

Saw an ML55 AMG badge on an older Merc SUV yesterday. I know there is an ML63 AMG. Was there an ML55 AMG also at some point, or is this a poser?

Yes it was real..two hood bulges (ridges running front to rear) will give away a real ML55.

Yup...ML55 AMG was the 4.6iS competitor. Motor Trend did a great write-up a while back in 2002. Prompted me to purchase my first 4.6iS soon after :-)

The ML 55 was the first kind of "performance" SUV and the X5 4.6is competed directly with it. Unfortunately, the first-gen ML is hideously unreliable and very "truck-ish". Nice for the two people that go off-roading, but not the best choice for normal folks that drive on the pavement.

Yeah, but the first gen ML was truck based...and handled like one. My friends parents had an ML 55 that we would mash on. The 4.6is was a better performance SUV.
