What's the best Chinese restaurant in San Francisco?

Hey Gang,

Doing a quick detour through San Francisco on my way home from Sonoma. (Am out here on work related biz..)

I'll be passing through San Francisco and wanted to eat at a great Chinese restaurant.

The only caveat being, I have to be at the airport by 5pm which means meal at 3pm or so. So the place has to be open all day and not close between lunch and dinner times..

Recommendations?

Not Chinese but whenever i'm in the Bay Area, i make reservations at this Vietnamese restaurant: Ana Mandara - San Francisco ...great food and experience.

I also understand that the Slanted Door is quite good for Vietnamese. But the group I'm with really wants Chinese.

Yes, that's a great Vietnamese restaurant as well. They're both within 30 minute drive to S.F. airport...traffic pending and assuming that's where you're flying out of.

There are a few members here from the S.F. area...perhaps they'll chime in.

I don't do chinese but there are a few on this list
I have tried.... Tommy Toy's Cuisine Chinoise comes to mind.
Near the Transamerica Building.

1. Ton Kiang especially for their dim sum. It's not downtown though -- it's in the outer Richmond area though. Very convenient if you're coming down from Sonoma though and want to avoid downtown.
2. House of Nanking for best chinese (and probably one of the cheapest) in SF. You probably want something fancier than this though.
3. Thanh Long for best Vietnamese seafood. Their roast crab and garlic noodles are the best I've ever eaten. Also very convenient if you're passing through SF from north to south.

+1 for House of Nanking.

Slanted door is too shi shi now (really liked it back at the old location) but if your group is in the mood for trendy fusion food, can't go wrong there.

One place that I can recommend is the R&G Lounge: Chinese Restaurant - SF - R and G Lounge

(nothing fancy but locals get downstairs seating, tourists sit upstairs --same food)

Try the salt and pepper crab.

The Blue Angels are in SF this weekend, don't miss the show if you can swing it. It's amazing.

We ended up going with a recommendation that one of my business partners was given. Yack Sing. It's Dim Sum and was delicious.

We saw them practicing today. I got some pictures. But had to get back to LA.. The poochies were missing their parents.
