Having driven that roundabout a number of times the reason why the traffic accident is so low is because everyone has a lot of respect for the traffic and the way it moves around that roundabout. The first time its rather daunting but after that you get used to it. You still hear the odd horn being tooted.
![]() Have to say I still can't get used to the NJ traffic loops going through neighbourhoods and a couple of lights sometimes to turn around. Kaefer on the European vacation reference. I am sure eric idle on his bicycle would be run down on that roundabout a number of times too

Wow... I think I'd lose my mind if I had to drive around that thing! By the looks of it, a person that has to go all the way around has to not only drive in a circle, but also drive in circles WHILE they're driving in a circle, if that makes any sense.. We have traffic circles everywhere in NH.. I like them, except people around here don't seem to get the concept of "yield," but then again, that's not just on traffic circles. The biggest PITA one around here is in Portsmouth.. It's massive (probably 2-3000 feet in diameter) and it has two lanes going around at the same time. It's irritating, and I have to use it every time I get onto I-95.

C'mon guys - the jughandles in NJ are easy once you get used to them.
If anyone is familiar with the S Jersey area......I drove through the Brooklawn Circles, Collingswood Circle, and Airport circle on Rte 130 every day for 9 years (before they put lights in the Airport circle). The rules were easy - don't make eye contact and don't show fear! |

The funny thing is I've been to Swindon about a dozen times back in the 90's when I worked for EMI/Capital/Virgin records, we had a CD plant there, and I don't remember that roundabout at all. I must have just missed it because it sure doesn't look like something I'ld forget driving through

I've gone around the magic roundabout a few times. It sure looks daunting but does work rather well. Drivers simply yield to those to their right & already on the roundabout.
There are many other variations on this contra-flow roundabout scheme I can think of including this one west of London. Last edited by Scotty; 11-03-2005 at 04:01 AM. Reason: added link |
