server question!

I configured a Power edge Server M710 on the Dell site, 2 CPUs, 24 GB ram, Raid 1 with 2 300gb SAS HD, Windows server 2008 standard, the site does note let me add MS SQL 2008 standard for 1 CPU. I called dell and they told me that they couldn’t sell me the 1-CPU version of SQL because the configured server has 2 CPU.

Would there be any problems if we buy the MS SQL STD 2008 For 1 socket only and install it on the server with the to CPU?

Thanks for any info you can provide me with!

Yes, it will run. You just won't be license compliant....

Suave - Are you running Openlicense ?

Is this virtualizing or just a beefy SQL box ...

I don`t know exactly how it is going to be use, a friend that works at a small company is quoting it to one of her client and they asked me to quote it to them. I`m not an expert in server area so I was wondering why Dell would not sell the server with the MS SQL STD for 1 socket and if there would be any problems if they installed it!

It's just license compliancy FWIW...

U would technically need to remove the 2nd proc. in order to be license complaint...
Gd lck.

I don't think you would need to remove the second processor, but you would need to change the settings to only use one of the processors. MS licensing is hard and overly complicated, so please don't take my word for it
