Agree with you on the driving been much better now in France than it used to. I came initialy on assignment with my company seven years ago but I liked it here so much (both people and country) that I decided to stay. I have the green card for the moment but will probably apply for American citizenship when I can. I have been fortunate enough so far to have been able to go back to the old country of France pretty often both for my job and for pleasure.

I really hope this thing will have calm down by that time. Anyway, where exactly are you going to stay in Paris? I doubt that you were planning to go to any of the risky suburds. I talked to my folks this morning and as I said in a previous post although this is serious matter it is so far limited to some bad quarters of some cities.

Here is a France weather forecast picture that a French folk of mine just sent me. As you can see, in spite of the seriousness of the situation we have not lost our sens of humor.

The hotel is on the river not too far from the Eiffel tower. I have a friend that lives there and he said that it's pretty dangerous at night.

I just checked with a friend of mine who is living in Paris down town actually not that far from the Eiffel tower quarter. She confirmed that there is no real problem in Paris down-town. You can easily understand that if there is one place secured in France it is going to be Paris down town, particularly near famous monuments. So no need to worry for right now. I will repeat it again, from a US media stand point it may look like the entire France is under riots. THAT IS NOT the case. It was the same thing with European medias after hurricane Katrina and the federal response to it. The fact of the matter is that, if you only have one side of the news it will be deformed. The only way to have a fair understanding of what is happenning on each side of the atlantic is to have access to both medias and make your own opinion like I do. Sade but true.
