I bet he wouldn't have won this award if people weren't counting what he actually accomplished over a 4 year span and not just 2009.

Having said that, he has been the most dominant athlete over the past four years. Four consecutive NASCAR championships are unprecedented. That's pretty impressive, IMO.

Huh? Works for me, it is based on sport domination nothing else:

Associated Press Athlete of the Year - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Previous winners (were they measured by pasts success as well? probably)

Tiger Woods, Tom Brady, Michael Phelps, Lance Armstrong (4 in a row), Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire...George Foreman....and so on.

^Nice... I guess he deserves this more than Obama does the NPP. Jimmy is a 4 time proven entity. Remember this Quicksilver;

Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".

Huh, maybe they should have given male athlete of the year to Brady Quinn for what he is trying to achieve with the Browns?

Good point Wagner. Also, I guess it was THIS YEAR that Jimmy won his fourth championship in a row and set the Nascar record. Extending his domination even further.

I'm very happy to hear Jimmie won. He and Jeff Gordon are "my" drivers.

I'm a Ford girl, but Hendrick Motorsports =
