The issue is that unless you put you eyeballs on an area, it is hard to learn from a listing if the area is desireable or not. Or if it is a nice area directly adjacent to a slum.
Asking those who know about the area is the fastest and best source for this sort of information - until you can eyeball it yourself.
While I appreciate the links, if there is anyone in the SF Bay area who can answer the orginal question, I would appreciate hearing.
