When bigotry makes you laugh your a$$ off

A new professional basketball league boasting rosters made up exclusively of white Americans has its eyes set on Augusta, but the team isn't receiving a warm welcome.

The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.

"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said.

One of the reader comments.....

I wonder if the all white team will have confederate uniforms,
or if they will play in their robes without the hoods?.........

Pretty silly for sure. Not a team that I would support or care to see, but in a country where ther are SO many African American sports leagues/associations (not to mention other non-athletic associations) why couldn't there be a Caucasian only basketball league if some people decided to create one? Who really cares? Like I said, I wouldn't try out for the team or go see any games , but why can't it go both ways? Why is it viewed as racist if it is all whites and not racist if it is all black. Just curious as to why that is.

What all African American Sports league and associations? Even the NAACP has white members.... charter members at that. In fact a caucasian woman was recently elected president of her college chapter.

I'm really interested in knowing which all African American organizations you are referring to?

Check out Bing/google...there are plenty of black sports groups. Bowling, tennis, golf, etc. They are all there. They don't all have to be national.

Also, for pretty much any major organization you can think of, there is an African American version of it. For example, ran across the African American Golf Digest. Could you imagine what people would be saying if someone wanted to start printing the Caucasian American Golf Digest? Or if some golf company bragged about being "white owned and operated"? Seems like a double standard to me.

My point is this. Many of these African American organizations exist to further participation/involvement of African Americans in their respective sport/activity, so why would white people doing the same thing be any different? Why would it be racist? Would they not be doing the same thing? Seeing as over 70-80% of the NBA is comprised of African Americans, I don't see how you can argue the basketball case.

Just looking at it from another point of view. Once again, I couldn't care less about this dumb league, but white people trying to advance themselves in areas where they are the minority should not be viewed as racist, IMO. It sure isn't for anyone else.

Sure, there are black organizations. I am a member of a historically black fraternity, but there are white, asian, middle-eastern and european members of the fraternity.

The Caucasian American Golf Digest is called Golf Digest. Just a few years ago Tiger, as the No. 1 golfer in the world, could play Augusta for the Masters, but the Club would not allow him to join.

No one said the league was racist... bigoted... but not racist. The league commissioner himself said he does not hate people of color. There is a difference. I try to chose my words carefully.

Its not about having a basketball league that is all white. They are free to do that. However, when the purpose of the league is to exclude non-whites and non-American born citizens that is where the problem lies.

Having a white basketball league is not advancing themselves in the sport. Being excellent at the game does.

That is one example of one chapter of a fraternity. What about the numerous other African American specific organizations? Not saying other races aren't sprinkled in, but overall, eh...

racist/bigoted = tomato/tomahto

I agree it is strange to exclude non-American born citizens, but at the end of the day, if their objective it to work on advancing white american men in the game of basketball (in their opinion) then I guess they have to state who they are focused on working with, right? They have to start somewhere. Maybe as time passes you would see a few minorities/non-U.S. born citizens sprinkled in? Who knows?

I happen to agree with this, but if that is the case, then why are there so many African American associations out there saying that is precisely what their mission statement is? Like I said, search a topic/career whatever on google, then type African American in front of it and you will more than likely see an association for it. No kidding.

I'm still waiting to be able to get a grant from the United Caucasian College Fund, while we walk around campus calling each other names that only we're allowed to say amongst each other.
