What's your 20?

I got a chuckle out of Drex's post on another thread. I havent heard that in a long time. Found this site to help others understand the slang.

Good site, I actually remember most of the terms from the CB craze days of the mid to late '70s.

The lingo is not the prob., when we listen in while stuck in some huge jam on the interstate...it's the accents and "fine voices" of the truckers.
"JV" doing his radio station, they are not!

Your avg trucker sounds more like Gabby Hayes. Some pics and a link for those of you less than 40, These guy sounded just like he looked. He was a classic sidekick, however.

Who didn't think the Bandit and Snowman were pretty cool? The CB craze was so big that I remember they had a kids toy CB radio called the "Coleco CB40". The trucker slang is pretty funny but the 10-codes are good. 10-codes vary somewhat from place to place but they are handy if you are in law enforcement or work with them. I use one in particular all the time with my friends, who I have taught this one. If we are on the phone and don't want someone to know something, like a wife, or want to know if they are able to receive confidential/non-wife material we will ask "clear 10-35?". (10-35 is 10-code for confidential info.) Or if we have to tell the other person something private and others are around we will say "I've have 10-35 for you." It's dorky but very effective.
