What an amazing world (Spirit Airlines will start charging $45 for carry-on bags)

"Bring less; pay less. It's simple," Spirit's Chief Operating Officer Ken McKenzie said in a statement.

Somehow I believe people are getting pushed over the edge.

Regarding Spirit Airlines charging for carry-on bags... It would've made more sense from the beginning if airlines started charging for carry-on bags instead of checked luggage.

Luckily for me, Baltimore is one of Southwest Airlines' hubs, so I very rarely have to fly another airline that charges to check bags or for sodas and snacks, etc.

As long as Xoutpost doesn't start charging per post, or per line in a post I think we will have some outlet to hold on to some sanity!

But it seems many companies have their feet to the financial fires, and if they can't figure out a way to draw in more customers they have to charge more to the current customers... which will inevitably push those out as well. With all these airlines charging more for everything, one of them needs to put out nice cheery commercials saying they still don't charge more to their customers and try to sell customer service/satisfaction vs "pay to flush" or $45 baggage check.

Southwest does... just a few ad campaigns I can think of off the top of my head...

I have no love affair with Southwest either. Customer service
across the board has virtually disappeared with the Airlines.
People are treated like cattle and given little respect.

More and more I'm trying to avoid flying because the
entire experience is very unpleasant throughout the
entire process.

That doesn't sound like the Southwest Airlines I know. Every single employee I have ever dealt with (I'm talking hundreds) has been awesome and seem to truly love their job and the company.

I've traveled with them for personal, business, group sales, etc.

Plus the fact that they do not charge to change or cancel your flight and give you a year to use any credits... that can even be passed along to other people (THANKS WEASEL!! )

It's a bunch of BS! The airlines give you a fare and then you have to pay to check bags!?!?!? Unless of course you fly 1st class. So what good is a $200 fare if you have to check 2 bags at $25 for the first and $40 for the second. Just tell me it's $300 for a ticket. For me, it's no big deal. But what about a family going on vacation for a week. Those bag charges add up.

A lot of people do carry ons because of the charges. So now they get you either way. I rarely do a carry on because of the liquid restrictions. Shampoo, conditioner, it all adds up and doesn't fit in one little zip lock.

Regarding Southwest Airlines;

I understand their approach and for short flights I agree they are the way to go.
But beyond that a flight of any length with Southwest is uncomfortable and their
service is nothing special.
