Exclamation Comedy Central censors South Park ...

OK...im sure some have heard about this..but i'm curious about some opinions... whether u enjoy the show or never heard of it.

The show did portray prophet Muhammad a few seasons back without any kind of censorship...but I guess this time the creators (Matt Stone & Trey Parker) have been warned/threatened ... the website who made the threats had a picture of Theo van Gogh...the dutch film director who was murdered by extremists...

'South Park' creators 'warned' by radical Muslim website: Um, holy [bleep]! | EW.com

"South Park has been tackling so many sacred cows and hot potatoes for so long now — from Scientology to Steven Spielberg, NAMBLA to the N-word — that when I watched last week’s episode, I barely winced when creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided to celebrate South Park’s 200th episode by taking on the depiction of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, for the second time."

I really enjoy South Park and have seen every episode, but this episode 200 was wrong in my opinion. What was the point of the episode? I know it was a combination of lots of previous episodes, but where did this fit in?

After the thing with the dutch film maker, they should have respected the muslims and not done it again. The creators knew that this would stir things up with the muslims..not just "extremists" as it is not allowed to show images of God, Prophet Muhammad, or any Prophet for that matter.

They showed other religious figures in this episode as well, such as Jesus, but in the Muslim religion it is not allowed to show images or any form of the Prophet. Maybe if it was just a verbal reference it may have been fine, but they did the censored block, bear costume, and then trying to take "powers" from him. Made no sense to me.

BTW, this is just my viewpoint and opinion on the matter. I tried not to go into too much detail.

Sorry BMWMan, but your feelings about this situation are what irritates the shit out of me.

When it's your religion that is being mocked you scream persecution. Where was your indignation about Jesus being mocked? Do you think Christians are happy about Jesus being mocked?

Do I agree with their disrespect of all of the religions and races of people that they mock on a daily basis? No, I don't like it at all, but, BUT, it's their right to do so, and I wouldn't want to live in a country where everyone didn't have that right.

You can't enjoy the protection of the 1st amendment and at the same time deny anyone else the same right. Especially denying them this right by killing them. KILLING THEM! WTF.

It boggles the mind.

THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

I do not think anybody would be happy if their religion or religious beliefs are mocked, but you do have the freedom to express yourself and say what you believe is right.

And killing someone is NEVER right. I don't know about the dutch guy, and how he died, but if it was because of the images then that is in NO way right.

Again, this is just my viewpoint and opinion. If I have said anything wrong or offensive, please don't hold it against me.

Ok I see the points here... we need to understand that nobody is left out ...this is comedy after all ... I don't know how people can say the Muslims are always attacked...I mean South park portrayed Jesus as watching porn and Buddha as snorting cocaine...
Comedy Central has also taken out the July 4 2001 episode of Super Best Friends where Muhammad was completely uncensored.

To make matters worse these people issuing the threats live in NYC...so we censor TV and they get no punishment for the threats...quite unfair if u ask me

It is a cartoon, get over it people. Terroristic threats from radical muslim groups are so cliche.

Extremists of any religion drive me nuts. I happen to believe in God, but I didn't make threats when South Park showed Jesus deficating. You know why? Because it's a freaking cartoon and guess what? Muhammad isn't any more important than Jesus.

I agree with both your opinions, Dannyell and FSETH, 100%.

I said the episode was wrong IMO, thats it. I watched the episode, didn't like it, and am waiting for the next one to come out. I understand that it is a cartoon, and just for entertainment.
