I can't believe something like that could come out of the mouth of our president.

Simply idiotic all around.

Just a meaningless speech about some of the negative impacts modern tech has on our society. I would agree for the most part. Not sure why he would site specific brands though, particularly American companies.

The part I find the most reckless is the "we can't stop it but..." statement.

Implying he would force his hand in the disruption of information distribution if he had the power is downright scary when it comes from the mouth of the supposed leader of the free world.

It is sort of like the "whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant superpower comment" or about the comments related to Vegas and Orlando singling them out as places you shouldn't go "blow your kids college fund", etc etc. Sometimes the things that come out of his mouth make no sense at all and has to make you wonder if it's for an agenda or if they're all just slip ups...

Come on folks;

Read the article and think.

In a widely reported commencement speech at Hampton University in Virginia, Obama lamented the tendency of popular electronic devices to simply entertain and divert, rather than educate.
(In a general sense that concept is correct)

The president prefaced his comments by saying that college graduates face a difficult economy, then added: "With iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations...information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation." (Again in a general sense this comment is true)

It amazes me how people can read someones words and create their own meaning. People are doing exactly what he said.
"With so many voices clamoring for attention on blogs, on cable, on talk radio, it can be difficult, at times, to sift through it all;
to know what to believe; to figure out who's telling the truth and who's not," Obama said.

Obama is not the first to take this position. His comments don't come without support.
