The only motivation I can assume he has here is to try to control the message by trying to degrade the different forms of media and the technology supporting it. Makes no sense to me but I might be biased because I'm in the technology business.

I think he is also making some potentially damaging statements about American companies that employ people.

Trying to be fair, maybe he is just an old guy who likes his BB and doesn't want to change, is threatened by new technology and feels inadequate technology wise.

Being cynical, maybe he wants to have all sources of information limited to just those views he agrees with along with a few token sources that he can combat and ignore the rest.

What he said seems dimwitted to me.

Hmm, I don't interpret his message as a war on technology at all. He's just telling people to use technology wisely and purposefully rather than just worshipping it blindly. I find it amusing that people will see his comments as a threat of some kind. Perhaps those are the very people who need to hear his message.

Maybe you are right - But he is talking about technology and claims (information from technology) that are un-necessary. In the scope of the problems we have as a country, I don't think it's technology at all that is causing pressure. I don't agree with the president on a very wide numer of topics. However, I agree with your suggestion that it isn't good to worship technology blindly.

"Obama described the companies' most popular offerings as distractions that are putting unnecessary pressure on the country.

Obama also lamented the spread of social media and blogs through which "some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction."

"All of this is not only putting new pressures on you," Obama said. "It is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy."

Of course he is concerned that any ideologies that may oppose his can become mainstream or widely known. Fifty years ago it was difficult for all viewpoints to come to a national/global stage due to the much slower and innaccessible methods of data distribution. I am sure he hates having to confront or address all the dissenters who disagree with his policies or question things like the validity of his citizenship amongst other points of contention.

Yeah, Mr. Crackberry addict himself wouldn't know how to use an iPod.

The tech industry is one of the few, if not the only, industry (other than the grub'mint) that is hitting on all cylinders and the Prez thinks it wise to slam these electronic gizmos.
