Mercedes makes too many AMG variants. There is no exclusive feel to the AMG platform. Every model has a AMG version ........Phil

And how is this different from BMW?

M3 Coupe
M3 Cabriolet
M3 Sedan
M5
M6 Coupe
M6 Cabriolet
X5M
X6M

I am sure that there will be a ///M variant of every model in the near future if the market demands it. With the upcoming 1M and the Alpina 7, BMW is pretty close to filling the gaps.

Well today that's not the case. There are currently only 5 ///M platforms......///M3, 5, 6, and X5/6. So that means no 1, X3, 7, or Z. And the Alpina is not a ///M. Check the MB site....I believe you can order every platform in a AMG version.......Phil

the 1 is coming.. BMW had a Z4 M so I'm not seeing your point... The black series cars are pretty impressive.

BMW has not confirmed a 1M...it seems to be pure speculation as usual. A 135iS seems more consistent since there's a 335iS and Z4 35iS.

For the "bread and butter" models, BMW only lacks one missing model, the M7. So they are pretty close to each other, with the only exception that MB will use two different AMG models in the SL, S models, ie. 6.3 V8 or a 6.5 V12 version. You could say that with the advent of the BMW 7RR package and upcoming performance packs for the newer V8 engines, the different variants could be compared.

C class - AMG version
E class - AMG version (coupe/conv and sedan)
S class - AMG version
SL class - AMG version
ML class - AMG version

3 series, M version
5 series, M version
7 series, missing
6 series, M version
X5&X6 series, M version

For the rest of the gaps.. (and smaller marketshare)

SLK class - AMG version
CLS class - AMG version
G Class (not GL) - AMG version
Others: GLK, GL no AMG version

Z4 series, M version
1 series (confirmed with beef'd up 322hp engine, unconfirmed name, M chief insisted on its coming but without the M1 name due to original M1)
X3 series - I hope not.
X1 series - I hope not.

Pretty close Phil. You can't order a B-Class or GLK-Class with AMG. I am sure if there were a market for it, MB would make it happen. BMW will do the same if required.

I would do the same if I were running the company. If the ROI was high enough to warrant a ///M variant of each model, they would be built for sure.

The "is" versions are there because it isn't possible to get the cars to the ///M level of what would be expected in the current body that is available.

I guess I see a lot of AMG plates around here. It's a good thing that I don't see a ton of ///M cars on the streets. That keeps it special ....Phil
