Wes Skiles, Off to Valhalla...
of the past couple decades. He was referred to as the "Jacques Cousteau" of the US. My son & I made one of our first father/son dive trips to the fresh water springs of western FL, circa mid '80s, and we dove Ginnie Springs of course. Skiles was working the diver check-in shack that morning...I was fairly impressed, as he was already well known in the dive mags as a budding near genius/skilled cave/cavern diver. My then teenage son didn't care; he just wanted to get wet in the gin clear fresh water caverns. NEway, he was one of the best underwater photogs and divers and a regular contributor to Nat Geo mag, which has some of his stuff in the coming issue. Apparently drowned in a open water column, using a re-breather...at 52. RIP.
