In Neeeewwww Yoooorrrkkk.... concrete jungle where dreams are made offfff

Wife unit and I will be lounging about the Hilton in Times Square this weekend, (29th-31st) pretty much doing nothing, just enjoying the big city atmosphere, and saving energy for the Deadmau5/Skrillex halloween's-eve concert at the Roseland Ballroom Saturday night. Good music, crazy costumes, NYC... going to be a treat for sure.

The engine builder for my car lives in Mastic Beach on Long Island, so I know my way around NYC, but have never actually stayed there for a weekend. Fiance is from Chi-town, so she knows the big-city feel, but also has never stayed in NYC.

So, if you tri-state peeps get a wave from a black E53, it might have been me.

Any advice on the best time to head into the city from the pike on a Friday afternoon? Check-in is at 3:00PM, unless I can sweet talk my way into an already clean room (or possibly and upgrade!)

Time to hit the road soon!

- J

P.S. A genuine slice of NY style pizza from Lil Frankie's is calling me... yum

As a previous hotel employee here are my tips for getting an upgrade:

1. Be extra nice, and make sure you are sincere when you ask the front desk agent how they are doing

2. Possibly sign up for HHonors....(not required)

3. be straightforward and ask for an upgrade, if you are already a HHonors member PLEASE DO NOT try to use it and say "well i'm a platinum member, i DESERVE an upgrade" stray as far away from those type phrases as possible!

4. ENJOY your upgraded room

Wish i was in NYC this weekend, definitely would have loved to see the famous 4.6is--have a good one

Screw the X5, I wanna see some Deadmau!!

YouTube - Ghosts N Stuff (Hard Intro Version) - start around the 2 minute mark.

YouTube - deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember (HQ) - this song sounds AWESOME in my 7, such a killer bassline. I've always like vocal dance/trance music...straight beats get old after a while.

YouTube - Medina - You & I (Deadmau5 Remix) - this one sounds pretty good too...I love songs that have a good lead up and basslines that move up and down in the chorus.

YouTube - Kaskade & deadmau5 - Move For Me (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - this one sounds good, but the bass disappears for some of her vocal parts, but when it does come on really strong starting at 1:25, it so makes up for it...this one is a real light dimmer when you're running 1500 watts to a DVC 12 in a box that takes up half the trunk!

Unless people are listening to this stuff with a good stereo system, actually LIKE bass, then you'll never appreciate it Hell, I've even got a 7.1 system in the garage for when I'm working on cars at home...thankfully my neighbors all like me

I'm jealous J, hope you had a blast!

My friends went to the deadmau5 concert in California a couple weeks ago. They said it was awesome. Sounds like you have a fun weekend coming up!!!!

the best time on Friday to get into the city is Thursday!

kidding aside, it's still a mess, though you can get lucky. Hope you have parking at the Hilton. Often very limited parking at downtown hotels, so sooner is better than arriving at 3pm. Also check posted clearance, as some I've seen would require me to duck my head. Hope you have a great time.

When going home watch out for cops/speed trap on the NJ Turnpike south of the P Turnpike exit.

Hope you have a good time in NYC.

Welcome back to the "concrete jungle". Like above poster mentioned, hope the Hilton provides you with parking. If not, try to park down the west side (10th-12th ave) and stay away from parking garages around the Times Square perimeter, they will rape you with their ridiculous rates.

Also this past week the NYPD has been cracking down on drivers using cell phones more than any other time. Don't even hold your cell phone. I got a $130 ticket for having it in my hands, wasn't even using it. So watchout for them.

Enjoy your stay
