US EPA mpg ratings vs CDA mpg ratings...
NEway, an interesting art/comparo on the US/CDA versions of 'mpg'. Fwiw, our '02 Vette beats the EPA sticker nearly all the time, and our '01 X does about what the sticker says...but that was then. GL, mD Here

How many miles do you have on the new appliance, it might still be tight and mpg will get better with break-in?
The new X3 with the turbo 6 and eight speed box is supposed to do quite well on the highway. Maybe you should trade the X5 and the appliance for one X3?

Cool.
The E70 X5 35d and 335d also beats the EPA sticker. You should post your mpg in owner ratings at Fuel Economy |

No biggie, but those newer EPA highway ratings are hard to obtain in real world driving, esp the ones at the mystical 30 mark, and up, imo. Why would I trade in the X & the Tuck for an X3? If I only wanted/needed 2 cars, the X3 would not be high on the list as a grocery getter/around town car for my CEO. As long as the '01 X keeps running well, I will keep it. The CEO's '10 Tuck was her pick; she's keeping that, too. |

I don't dislike the X3...but, for her/our needs I/she didn't feel the urge for a ~$50G car. Her Tuck was $28 loaded w/every option, or ~$20Gs out the door with the traded in the POS Honda CR-V, which the dlr lusted for, for some reason. I wrote a check and we drove it home.
It just didn't come up on the Jukebox for consideration, mostly due to price for our 2nd/3rd car needs. The lil'Hyundai Tuscon does fine for her/us. Holds four sets of clubs, 4 people, handles well, and she likes it. GL, mD

It's funny because I have the opposite situation. All the cars I've been driving in the last three years have exceeded the window stickers. I do not drive like Ms. Daisy is in the back seat! My last Mini Cooper was rated at 29 city 38 highway. Over 15,000 miles I AVERAGED 40+. My current Cooper S Clubman has about 2000 miles on it and it's at 34.3 right now. Window sticker says 27 / 35. The 135i convertible I had before the Minis was around 24-25 when I turned it in. I think it was EPA rated 19/28. Pretty good for 300hp!

I've regularly scored over the EPA sticker ratings without much effort either, albeit I don't do a lot of true "urban" traffic (mostly suburban). When I drove for 2,5 hrs north on I-81 in mountainous PA, I averaged 7,7 l/100km @ a pretty quick 114,6 km/h.
That said, my parents had a 2006 Honda Civic years ago and we never got the posted numbers, usually about 15% less than advertised. 40 US mpg was a joke on the highway. |
