Road Trip, NC Mtns to FLA...

Made the annual seasonl migration from our Mtn Joint to the FL StarterShack. TheCEO drove her newish Hyundai Tucson, and I drove the VetteVert, this season.
The X is sleeping in the other garage...

Nothing unusual other than the heavy wildfire smoke in southern GA, and the load and "stuff" carrying ability of both cars. The Tuck holds nearly as much as our E53 X5. The FL Joint is in good shape, and it's good to be here for "the change", and off the winter-like Mtn.

The Tucson, loaded to the gunwales, managed ~27+ mpg over the nearly 800 mile trip, while the VetteVert did nearly 30 mpg, for the entire trip.

Some pics below, of the X about to be put to sleep, couple of the ride, the load the Tucson was able to swallow up, etc....thanks for looking.
BR, mD

Thanks, J...yes, the Vette just loafs, but as you know, if one drops a couple three gears, it sits up and goes. No FCar, but it's been basically problem-free, and a fineazz ride for the past 8 1/2 years, and it remains our "economy" car. Trunk holds alot of stuff, too.

Seriously, 1,700 RPM at 78 mph and about 30mpg!

Enjoy the warm weather MD. Looking forward to any Florida photos in the near future. I know the scenery may be a little different than the mountain house, but I am sure you will come up with something great.

Thanks, S...the 6 spd C5s have 1-4th gear, like "normal", with 5th slightly over driven, and 6th is way over driven; thus, the loafing rpms at any speed. That initial pic of the mpg/dash, of 33+ was about 2 hrs into the trip, and was on that inital first tank. The 29.6 mpg shot was taken near the end of the trip, almost 800 miles later, and is cumulative for the entire trip, not having re-set the "Avg mpg" for the entire trip! Amazing road trip car: holds 2 sets of clubs, soft luggage for 2, and rolls down the road like an F16...noisey, and warm inside, but a fun azz car. BR, mD

I am pretty sure you made a similar thread for last years trip south (or your spring/summer migration north), but the Vette's mpg surprises me every time. By the way, I have to give you credit with regards to how nice all of yor cars look. You do a great job of keeping the Vette and X5 looking like new. If you ever decide to sell either, I am sure they will get snapped up quickly.

Enjoy the winter golf season, mD. You probably won't play as much as this veteran rocker, featured on BBC 4's Desert Island Discs:

BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - Desert Island Discs, Alice Cooper

The iPlayer interview will be up for a couple of more days, if you're interested.

Thanks, P...pretty interesting, and I was always a semi-out-of-the-closet AC fan. He's a damn decent stick, too.

I rolled south with a 13.6 Index, but here at sea level, off thinazz Bermuda fairways and greens, I struggle. I actually enjoy chasing it more, back on the Mtn courses, and only play here a couple times a week. I do practice more here, but as about a "12" Range, it doesn't always translate.
