Doc, I'm not sure if you really want to jump your car through the cigarette lighter. The cigarette lighter is fine for slow charging, but I'm very hesitant to use it for jump starting a car. Pushing several hundred cranking amps through those tiny wires are dangerous...besides that, won't you blow a fuse trying to jump start your car that way (I think the cigarette lighter only has a 40A fuse)? I would skip the cigarette lighter thing and just buy a regular good 4 or 6 gauge jumper cable. As I've mentioned in another thread on the main forum, I had problem jump starting my car, even with a 10-gauge jumper cable. Those wires on the cigarette lighter thingy definitely looked smaller than 10-gauge.

I agree that the lighter does not offer a heavy wire conection.

You have a 2005 X5 what do you need jumpers for?

The car will turn off the interior lights if you leave them on.

If you need jump call BMW assist for free.

Doc, if you really want a pair of jumpers, hit an AutoZone or Walmart and buy the thickest pair they have...get good, strong jaws. They are all very good these days.
I'd pass on that sucker in the pic. Very good ones are not expensive.

Don't think i've had this experience yet because I have not used BMW Roadside assistance. MBZ roadside service comes with their guns out. AAA the same. I do know that in the past I have told the operator to make sure the driver knows he will not be providing service for a Chevrolet. Nothing wrong with Chevrolets mind you; but towing a Chevrolet and a BMW? Two different animals.

Never used BMW Roadside Assist, but my wife had a flat tire and called them (she would have changed it, but it was pouring rain). Just under 20 minutes to arrive, and then he followed her to a nearby tireshop to drop the flat tire off so that he didn't have to put it in the trunk wet. She was impressed. Small sample size, but the contractors they use here seem to be pretty good.
