Throw in some curves, and it's bye-bye Blazer!

are you sure? Chevy tuned the suspension for the SS at the Nurburgring... to the best of my knowledge, BMW didn't do that with the X5... (just asking)

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
Have you driven the Blazer SS

Has anyone driven a Blazer SS?

The X5 handles great and evenone seems to think it will out handle the Blazer but does anyone really know?

I don't think it's out yet...I checked the website(www.gm.com) and there isn't an option to search for the SS. They have a picture of it when you click on trailblazer, but there isn't a way to select the SS. The Cherokee SRT8 is out and is fully loaded for about $47,000.

I'm pretty sure BMW developed the X5 in conjunction with pleny of Ring testing...
As for the Chevy, I don't care how much 'tuning' they do, the framework of the Trailblazer is very limited (as anyone who's ever driven one will surely attest). In my opinion, no amount of stiff springs, heavy anti-roll bars, etc., is going to improve the overall dynamics of this very non-sporting truck enough to compete with the mighty X5.

I must correct myself about the SS not being for sale yet...I just saw one today on the road...while it was a brief glimpse, it appeared to have a decent amount of body roll when it took the turn in front of me and didn't seem like it could corner or grip the road as well as an X5. The engine did have quite a rumble though.

No one is debating that the X5 will handle better, what's in quesiton is by how much better, and, I still contend that 90% of ALL X5 owners will NEVER come close to realizing the potential of the X5's handling, so why pay double to have it?

Consider also that a vast majority of X5's will always be driven on pavement and never see off road, while the percentages of Chevy's that see off road duty is significantly higher.

Bang for the buck and versatility, vs. handling prowess that is rarely realized, and status.

(keep in mind i own both before you flame me btw)

yeah, I realized that today, my bad.....I also saw a Typhoon on the road today too, which made me think, how is it that GMC/Chevy could make a truck back in '93 that had only 280hp and went 0-60 in 5.3(a conservative figure, this site says it's at 4.8 http://www.fast-autos.net/gmc/gmctyphoon.html), but it could only muscle 5.7-5.8 out of 391hp? Granted the curb weight between the two is about 600lbs, but I'm sure a lot of that weight is in the engine(4.3L V6 vs. 6.0L V8). Seems like they're regressing.

yeah that and the typhoons and cyclones were turbo'ed/Supercharged. They were highly tunable for big HP. there's also a huge weight difference on top of the factors that Gresch mentioned.
