And just for the record, Buick (!) and Cadillac were rated higher in reliability than BMW in '05... and not by an insignifcant amount either .... just for the record.

Sorry I avoided your question.
I would say that yes, it's worth the extra money.
The X5 is the best vehicle I have ever driving. I can have myself, four friends, all our school books and backpacks and laptops, and on top of that some deliveries (food, school supplies and what not) for Katrina Victims and still be able to get to anywhere within 300 miles in twenty minutes or less. In the rain.

HAHAHA! can you provide a link on the BMW site for the Flux Capacitor option? I can't seem to find it!

I had originally intended to buy a 2005 ML500. Test drove one, and was not nearly as impressed as I am with the X5. Drove like a Chevy Blazer.

I never said the X5 as bad as the ML. I was trying to make a point that generally, German designed vehicles are a butt load more stable than their counterparts.

S500 vs LS430 on the same road (there is a specific on ramp I have in mind, if you live in Sugarland ask me and I'll tell you about it), the S500 comes out on top feelings a boat load more stable than the LS430 unless the LS430 is in Sport mode.

You probably just didn't get enough looks from any women you passed during the test drive.... it's ok, I understand.

I think the confusion is that by stable, and correct me if i'm wrong, you mean stable in reference to how they handle, not "stable" in reference to their reliability.

I think we all agree on that. The discussion, at least for me, is that is that perceived stability worth paying $35,000 more for?

and by the way, if you like performance driving, look into autox in your area, people might think you're strange if you keep lapping that damn on-ramp

Oops, it's not a twistly on ramp. It's a simple one sweep.

I do auto-x Finally got new tires, so I have to wait until they get near bald though to go again.

I will still stand by my word that that (not perceived, it is real) is worth 35k$
