Please tell me "Is any of this true"?
"My students are out of control," Munroe, who has taught 10th, 11th and 12th grades, wrote in one post. "They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners. They curse, discuss drugs, talk back, argue for grades, complain about everything, fancy themselves entitled to whatever they desire, and are just generally annoying." And in another post, Munroe — who is more than eight months pregnant — quotes from the musical "Bye Bye Birdie": "Kids! They are disobedient, disrespectful oafs. Noisy, crazy, sloppy, lazy LOAFERS." She also listed some comments she wished she could post on student evaluations, including: "I hear the trash company is hiring"; "I called out sick a couple of days just to avoid your son"; and "Just as bad as his sibling. Don't you know how to raise kids?" Munroe did not use her full name or identify her students or school in the blog, which she started in August 2009 for friends and family. Last week, she said, students brought it to the attention of the school, which suspended her with pay. Pa. teacher strikes nerve with 'lazy whiners' blog - Yahoo! News

Interesting point in the article. This was discussed on a local talk show today and the responses were equally interesting.
"She could have been any person, any teacher in America writing about their lives," he said, pointing out that Munroe blogged about 85 times and that only about 15 to 20 of the posts involved her being a teacher. "It's honest and raw and a little edgy depending on your taste. ... She has a deep frustration for the educational system in America." and parenting as well.

Teachers are not respected by students anymore. I know this was the case in my highschool years.
It is not like the good ol days...what ever those were. Perhaps more discipline possibilities. Students were teacher fearing. It was a good thing. And who's fault is the current situation? The parents. Especially when parents often undermine teachers in favor of their child when it comes to discipline.

I used to mess with teachers in my own way. Never disrespectful, especially to the ones who couldn't enjoy a laugh with me. It usually sparked from them realizing that I'm not easily offended-so I'd be the kid in class that teachers "made fun of". It was actually great--it still continues here at Cornell.

It is all about consistency though. Rebelling teens can not handle "transitions" in their authority figures behavior. Or at least this is what I observed and believe. A teacher should be stern always, and not "relax" some days. This is true for anyone in a position of authority, police, mangers, parents etc. This makes it clear where each individual stands and what the boundaries are. ie. If someone is always quick to anger and then reverts back to Mr. nice person, then it is difficult to take their next anger outburst seriously. Your Westpoint teacher had it right for sure.

Ponder this. I graduated high school in 1960. If we did any of the the stuff she's describing it would have prompted our parents to ground us until Armageddon. Education was "WAY" to important to waste on nonsense coming from young people. That's what accounts for the puzzled look on my face when I see pants on the ground.

I fully side with the teacher on this one... I graduated high school 11 years ago and it was just starting to get like this, but not as bad as it seems to be now. I was always the kid to initiate banter in the class, but productive banter on the subject at hand, especially in science class. I was always the teachers fav in science classes. Today's kids really worry me how they are being raised with no respect and more importantly no common sense...

I side with the teacher too. Why should not be able yo express her self in written form online? As long as she is not doing this in class she van say what ever she wants. I'm 24 and in school I gave teachers hell. So they have a right to feel how they feel. Kids are bad we all know that some worst then others and maybe we should take it as a wake up call that things are out of control with them when a teacher a person who had the desire to teach are kids are so disappointed in them. You have to consider that the people who teach ate the people who essentially mold the world into what it is and there paid crap treated like crap get no support from the government but talk and then they have to go to work for ten hours of there's lives to disrespectful kids who don't care. Who is a child to talk back to a person who teachs them? When is it okay for kids to discuss drugs in school openly? To curse and fight and just be bad in general? Maybe America is to lax maybe people think to much of there so called.freedom and just don't know how to act anymore not everything is okay and should be allowed there has to be a point where people know u can't just do whatever the hell u want. So more power to her maybe there parent will read it her blog and feel about the job they did with there bad ass kids

Graduated high school 7 yrs ago and definitely on the teacher's side...they are disrespected every day and it seems to get worse.
It's not just US...I started school in Romania completed grades 1 to 6 there ...and let me say we would get slapped or embarrassed in front of our colleagues if we misbehaved...maybe a bit too extreme for some but it worked because students were actually behaving and learning. Today student-teacher relationship in classes seems to be equal and that is not right.
