Sistene Chapel Question.
OK, this is about as highly educated and random a group
Has anyone ever seen pics of the complete bottom panel from the three panels of 'the creation'. The one where he is showing his azz? I can't recall seeing it personally. The Church is highly restrictive of photos. It's rumored this is also a self portrait. Cannot be confirmed by statement or image, since only a very slight profile is visible when enlarged. But the profile and hair color are similar. I wonder of they aren't (partially) trying to restrict this image? Also, they own the rights to the most popular piece of art on the planet and are certainly driving profit from it's exclusivity as well. Our guide was Roman and highly educated. He spoke at length of Michelangelo's, by now large, distaste for the Pope and church. He clearly included his face in the human skin on the wall, held by the demon descending into hell. He felt the Pope skinned him alive on the fee they paid for the work. He was not at all happy on many projects and felt they were holding him in, almost, bondage to their will. We heard the same in Florence visiting 'The David'. He carved the slave statues in defiance and as self portraits. A statement against the mistreatment he felt form the pope and church. He displayed himself and a faceless man, physically bound and struggling to free himself fromm his bonds of the church.
