2011 Masters
It was sort of a slow start today for a lot of the big guns, though McIlroy has had an incredibly good first day. Mickelson lost composure as he was finishing up. I can't wait to see how these guys come out tomorrow. My pool picks: Picked from a pool of 40 players separated into 5 groups ("Best", International, Young, Wild-cards, "sentimental") , 2 picks from each group for a total of ten. This format would explain some of my weird picks, which just so happen to be working out surprisingly well so far (Garcia, Couples.) Phil Mickelson Luke Donald - toss up between Donald and Westwood. Justin Rose Matt Laird - Regretting given the unlikely hood of a good showing for rookie Anothony Kim- instead of McIlroy . Who knew #1 spot, 7 under first day. I knew the Kid was good (as in top 10 in world) but really?Dustin Johnson - Although early, in hindsight should have dropped for Roy. Matt Kuchar - Damn good pick, but pretty much everyone has him. KJ Choi - My best pick so far, not many picked him. Fred Couples - better than I expected. Sergio Garcia - surprisingly good start. So far not too bad! Some of my "worst" golfers have performed the best on the first day. Watching people enjoy an amazing game, on an amazing course, on a very amazing day makes "spring" time in Alberta unbearable. It will be -6 tonight with flurries! What are you guys thinking? Who are your picks?

I'm in the weird pool we have through the pro shop: for a Sawbuck you get 5 picks; I got in for 2 x 5, but only Rory, Tiger and KJ are in the hunt at the moment.
The tie breaker is winning score, which I wasn't aware when I signed up, so I just guessed at the score...I should have studied up a bit on the scoring history, so my 2 guesses were just that. Thus, I have no chance. But, good Masters so far. Watching that 3 some of kids was excellent, though it will be interesting to see if the kids' nerves hold up on Sat & Sun. Myself, I shot an 83 today, with a choking dawg 45 and a smooth 38...crazy game, but may be the best one ever invented. GL, mD

Love to play golf, but don't really like watching it on TV. I actually had a buddy offer me a badge for today, but couldn't get off work as I have recently started a new job. Hopefully I will be able to take him up on it next year. I think it would be a great experience to go to the Masters.
Not a bad day at all MD. Best I ever shot for 18 holes was an 82 and I was 14 years old at the time. I grew up playing all summer with my grandfather. However, it has gone way, way downhill since then. Now I am lucky to shoot low 90's, legitimately anyway. I had classes at UGA with Bubba Watson, so I am rooting for my fellow Bulldog. However, he has a long way to go.

I would certainly take 83. I have not been golfing much the last couple of summers. Since I have been out of the junior memberships and fees, it can get real expensive. But never mind the cash, when I do hit the links consistently, I will suddenly develop the most agonizing muscle pain in my upper middle back area. After this happens I will tend to modify my swing in order to avoid the pain...while players more than 3 times my age are shooting par at the crack of dawn.
Consistent swing = most basic foundation of golf. Maybe some training/stretching and swing modifications this summer so I can correct the pain issue. I am doing quite well in the pool, but picking A.Kim over McIlroy pretty much seals my fate. Isn't that nuts? Could of had #1, Roy 10 under over Kim not making the cut. 9 players in - collectively 26 under. Pool leader - 10 players in , 38 under!

Watching hockey. Except in Alberta. There, the hockey teams are about to start playing golf.

Yup, Canucks fan.
Last game of the season Saturday in Calgary. We'll see how it goes. Here is hoping for a good playoff run.
